Risk assessments are a legal duty for all
employers. Records of your risk assessments can be your first line of
defence. Risk assessments are required wherever there is possibility
of injury, illness or loss.
A risk assessment is one of the first documents asked for by the authorities
and by the injured party’s legal advisors. This must be carried out by
a ‘competent’ person; this is someone who has knowledge, training and
experience of what could go wrong, and very importantly how to prevent it.
